John G. Caporal Biography
Mr. John G. Caporal is Acting Director of the Air Force Small Business Programs Office, where he manages the execution of Small Business Programs for the Department of the Air Force. As a member of the Air Force Small Business leadership since November 2004, Mr. Caporal has helped to transform, modernize and promote successful practices with respect to engaging small business. Through his leadership the Air Force has implemented several innovative strategies to better align the small business community with the mission and priorities of the Air Force. Those strategies include capitalizing on the diverse capabilities and skills of Air Force small business specialists, fostering the development of small business solutions that are critical to meeting mission requirements, and implementing improved communications with the small business community and internal stakeholders.
Mr. Caporal began his career as a GS-0301-5 Summer Intern at Wright-Patterson AFB while attending graduate school at the University of Dayton. He was then accepted into the Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC) Mid-Management Program in October 1983. Later, he worked as a Contracting Officer at the San Antonio Air Logistics Center, Kelly AFB.
Subsequent assignments included a return to AFLC headquarters at Wright-Patterson AFB as a Procurement Analyst and then at the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) as a Contract Specialist on the B-2 program. In January 1989, Mr. Caporal returned to San Antonio as a Career Program Administrator on the PALACE Team at Randolph AFB, and then later was selected to help stand up the Environmental Contracting Division at Brooks AFB.
In December 1999, Mr. Caporal moved to the Pentagon where he joined the Air Staff to manage the Air Force Government-wide Purchase Card Program. Mr. Caporal then served as a Procurement Analyst at the Pentagon through January 2002, and subsequently as Deputy Chief of the Resources and Analysis Group, Mission Support Division, SAF/AQCX, from January 2002 through November 2004.
Mr. Caporal earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education in 1975 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1982 from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from the Air Command and Staff College in 1987 while at Wright-Patterson AFB.
